Usually, one of the first steps in educating people on bats is dispelling all of the myths, common misconceptions and urban legends about bats. One of these, obviously, is talking about vampire bats. Vampire bats are a real type of bat that live in Mexico, Central America and South America. They are the only mammal that feeds entirely on blood. While usually cows and horses are their prey, they have been known to feed on humans, as well. And although, it's not nearly exciting as Hollywood would have you think and you won't turn into a mindless zombie-type when bitten...but it can be lethal via the diseases and infections that can result from a vampire bat bite. Here is a good video to see some vampire bats in action!
